Hailey & Montana’s Mount Rainier Engagement

Some sessions just feel easy from the first minute, and Hailey and Montana’s engagement session at Mount Rainier was one of them. We met them at Paradise on a clear September evening, with the mountain fully out and the meadows glowing in that soft late-summer light.

They showed up in the perfect pairing: a flowing white dress for Hailey, a cozy brown sweater for Montana. Earthy, simple and timeless, the kind of outfits that let the landscape (and the two of them) do all the talking.

An evening at Paradise

We started on the trails near historic Paradise Inn, wandering hand in hand under the tall subalpine firs with the jagged Tatoosh Range behind them. Walking is our favorite way to warm a couple up, and within a few minutes these two were laughing like we weren’t even there.

From there we followed the path to the overlooks, where Rainier’s glaciers filled the whole sky. A kiss at the wooden railing, a quiet hug on the footbridge, a moment of just standing side by side and taking in the view. Those in-between frames are some of our favorites from the whole gallery.

Then came the meadows. Hailey and Montana settled into the wildflowers and tall alpine grass, and the session got sweet and a little silly. There was a hand kiss with the peaks behind them, a twirl in the grass, and Montana sweeping Hailey right off her feet while she laughed. We finished up close, with soft light and a few tender kisses to close out the evening.

Hailey and Montana, thank you for trusting us with this one. You two made it easy, and we can’t wait for what’s ahead.

Planning your own Mount Rainier engagement session

Paradise is one of our favorite engagement locations in Washington. In one easy evening you get evergreen trails, wooden bridges, wildflower meadows and a giant mountain in nearly every frame. If you’re dreaming about a Rainier session, here’s what we tell our couples:

• Go in the evening. The light softens, the crowds thin out, and the meadows start to glow.
• Aim for late summer. Wildflowers usually peak in July and August, and September brings golden light and quieter trails.
• Wear earthy, flowing pieces. Neutrals, warm browns and soft whites blend beautifully with the meadows and let the mountain shine.
• Bring a layer. It’s cooler up there than in town, even in summer, and things change fast in the mountains.
• Don’t stress the weather. Rainier makes its own plans sometimes. We keep an eye on the forecast and show up ready for anything, so you can just enjoy the evening.

Many of the trails right around Paradise are paved and easy to walk, so this is a great fit even if you’re not big hikers.
